University of Central Arkansas righthander Cody Davenport was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday after leading the Bears to a 5-0 win over Houston Baptist on Sunday.

Davenport, a 6-foot junior from Fayetteville, tossed a complete-game, one-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks to close out Sunday’s doubleheader. He did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and improved to 3-1 on the season. Davenport turned in two of his strikeouts in the ninth inning to close out the victory, holding HBU to a .036 batting average on the day.

The win kept the Bears in third place in the SLC standings, 10-5 in league play and 18-13 overall.v

The one-hitter was the first for a UCA pitcher since Chris Caudle allowed just one base hit in a 3-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on April 5, 2014 at Bear Stadium.

UCA travels to UAPB for a 3 p.m. game Tuesday before returning home to host UT Martin in a three-game non-conference series beginning Friday night.

CBC signs 7 for soccer

Seven athletes have signed to play soccer for Central Baptist College for the 2018 season.

Kaylee Parker,Alexis Knight, Brieanna Crisel, Jessica Wisenor, Makayla Jones, Ashley Cave and Adrianna Evans are the seven new Mustangs.

Parker will join CBC from North Arkansas College in Harrison. Knight played goalkeeper at Sylvan Hills High School and was selected player of the game four times. Crisel is another instate pickup who will play in the midfield.

Wisenor enrolled early so she could begin working out with the team. Jones is from Morrilton and was a leader on the Devil Dogs. Cave is another Arkansas player and Evans comes to CBC from North Lamar High School in Paris, Texas.
