University of Central Arkansas pitcher Dustin Ward was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, his second honor of the season.

Ward, a junior lefthander from Little Rock Christian, threw a complete-game shutout on Friday in UCA’s 16-0 victory over Sam Houston State. Ward struck out six and allowed only three hits in the run-rule victory. He limited the Bearkats to a .136 batting average as the Bears took the series from the third-place Bearkats, winning two of three games at Bear Stadium.

Ward has a 6-1 record in his last eight starts, all conference games, with one no decision. He ranks second in the league in victories with an 8-3 record.
