MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After a 4-0 start to the season, the Hendrix College field hockey team lost its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at Rhodes, 5-1, Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors (4-1, 0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when junior defender Maggie DesPain scored her third goal of the season on a pass from freshman forward Erika Jasso.

After the half, the Lynx (3-2, 1-0) tied the game when Sarah Kennedy assisted Katie Faucher’s goal in the 41st minute. Faucher struck again in the 45th minute and completed the hat trick in the 58th minute. Taylor Mills (55th minute) and Chelsea McLeod (67th minute) also scored for Rhodes.

The Lynx outshot the Warriors 13-2 and had a 14-6 penalty corner advantage. 

Kelly Whelan recorded one save for Rhodes and freshman Betsy Kelly had five saves for Hendrix.

The Warriors will host Transylvania in a nonconference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 24.
