The Hendrix College women’s tennis team dropped the 2011-12 season opener 5-4 to the University of the Ozarks on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors led 4-3, but the Lady Eagles took the No. 3 and No. 6 singles, both of which went down to the wire.
Junior Arden Brazzeal and sophomore Annemarie Beck earned a point for Hendrix, topping Chelsea Glasscock and Tara Richards 8-5 in No. 1 doubles. The freshman tandem of Hannah Smashey and Victoria Archer defeated Macie Kelley and Chelsea Young 8-2 to give Hendrix two out of the three doubles points.
Brazzeal downed Glasscock in No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1. Archer also defeated Young 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.
Ozarks tied the match with a No. 3 win that went to a tiebreaker. Richards pulled out the win over Smashey 5-6, 7-6, 1-0 (12-10). The match came down to No. 6 singles, where Wallace defeated junior Kelly Lane 7-5, 7-5.
