Former Arkansas State University head football coach Steve Roberts will be the featured speaker at the 16th annual Bob Courtway/Fellowship of Christian Athletes Breakfast on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Hendrix College Wellness and Athletic Center.

Roberts, currently the athletics director for Cabot Public Schools, coached the Red Wolves from 2002-2010 and recorded 37 victories in nine seasons. Named 2005 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, he guided ASU to a league title and an appearance in the New Orleans Bowl. During his tenure, Roberts coached more than 70 All Sun Belt players and had several players taken in the National Football League Draft.

Roberts’ squads excelled in the classroom, having won seven SBC Academic Team Awards seven times in an eight year span. The Red Wolves also received national recognition for having a high graduation rate.

Prior to taking over in Jonesboro, Roberts was the head coach of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. for two seasons. Roberts led the Demons to a NCAA I-AA playoff appearance and had a nationally ranked team in 2000 and 2001. He was a finalist for National Coach of the Year honors and had 18 All-Southland Conference selections. While at NSU, Roberts guided the Demons to a road win over TCU.

The breakfast is named in memory of longtime Hendrix coach and athletic director Bob Courtway. Courtway is a member of the Hendrix, University of Central Arkansas, NAIA and Arkansas Sports Halls of Fame. Bob Courtway Middle School and Bob Courtway Pool at Hendrix are named in his memory.
