CLARKSVILLE — The Hendrix College men’s tennis team kicked off the 2011-12 season with a 5-4 victory at the University of the Ozarks on Tuesday afternoon.  

The Warriors started with taking two of the three doubles matches. Senior Michael Gardner and freshman Robert Sheets topped Jason Morgan and Bishop Bass 8-2 in No. 1 doubles and senior Ben Thomas and junior Udai Garimella defeated Greg Knaggs and Bill Blake 8-2 in No. 2 doubles. 

Doubles turned out to be the deciding factor, as the Warriors and Eagles split the singles competition. Gardner defeated Morgan 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot and Garimella downed Corey Dillard 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (5-0) in No. 4 singles. The final point was won in No. 6 singles, when senior Kent Dunson defeated Greg Knaggs 6-3, 6-3 to give Hendrix the win. 

The Warriors will be off until the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Antonio, Texas on Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
