The University of Central Arkansas softball team will host a two-hour all skills camp alongside the National Professional Fastpitch All-Stars at the City of Colleges Park from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 2.
After the camp, the Bears will take on the NPF All-Stars on the new turf that was installed at Farris Field over the summer.
"This is a great opportunity for UCA and the Central Arkansas region," Bears coach David Kuhn said. "It gives our fans and players a chance to see some of the professional fastpitch players up close and personal, and it also allows us to showcase our facility and team which has steadily improved over the past three years."
Olympians, national champions, world cup winners and All-Americans will make up a large portion of the NPF All-Stars roster that will travel to Conway.
Caitlin Lowe and Andrea Duran, who each helped the United States to a silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will be on hand. Lowe was a two-time national champion at Arizona where she was a four-time NFCA All-American. Duran was also a two-time national champion for UCLA in 2003 and 2004 and was also named Pac-10 player of the year in 2006. Lowe and Duran will be joined by Caitlin Lever as the other Olympian on the NPF All-Stars roster. Lever, a three-time All-ACC selection and All-American while at Georgia Tech, participated in the 2008 Olympics with Canada.
In addition to the three 2008 Olympians, the NPF Roster will also include Jenn Salling, the 2011 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and a 2009 national champion with Washington, four-time All-Big Ten pitcher Jamee Jaurez (Ohio State) currently of the Chicago Bandits, the 2009 Big East Player of the Year and Second Team All-American selection from Louisville, Melissa Roth and a three-time All-American and a 2009 national champion with Washington, Ashley Charters.
Two former conference players of the year in Bianca Meijia, who was the 2010 Northeast Conference Player of the Year with Long Island University and BYU graduate and former Mountain West Player of the Year, Angeline Quiocho, will also appear.
Catcher Roya St. Clair, a Michigan graduate and former Third Team All-Big Ten selecion and outfielder Jessica Bachkova, an Arkansas graduate and former 2007 All-SEC Freshman honoree, round out the NPF All-Star roster that will be on hand.
Game time at Farris Field is scheduled for 5 p.m. Kids participating in the clinic receive a ticket to the game; otherwise admission is $5 for the public. UCA students will be admitted free with a student ID.
