CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Hendrix College men’s soccer team recorded a split on their trip to Claremont, Calif., last weekend. The Warriors (4-2-2) lost to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-2) 3-2 on Friday, but rebounded to shut out Pomona-Pitzer (4-4) 4-0 Sunday evening.
In Sunday’s win, junior forward Connor Silvestri of Conway netted a hat trick, and freshman Greg Gandy scored his first career goal. Silvestri, the Warriors’ leading scorer with nine goals on the year, put the first goal of the game in on passes from senior Duncan Keegan and junior Grant Womack.
Gandy drove a left-footed volley in to the upper corner to give Hendrix a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute. Silvestri completed the hat trick with goals in the 69th and 74th minutes.
Senior keeper Adam Legg recorded three saves in 76 minutes and freshman Joe Esrock stopped one shot in 14 minutes. Senior defender Ian Evans stopped a shot by Owen Hawkins by clearing a ball that got past Legg while Hendrix still led 2-0.
Against CMS on Friday, the Warriors had a 2-1 lead, but the host Stags scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes to win 3-2.
The Warriors will open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday at Millsaps in Jackson, Miss.
