Despite recording a season-high 16 blocks, the Hendrix College volleyball team lost to Lyon College 28-26, 27-25, 11-25, 17-25, 15-13 at Grove Gymnasium on Thursday night.

The Warriors (14-14) had four players set or tie their career-best in total blocks — junior Melissa Clement (9), junior Katie Bates (9), Alyssa Jaksich (7) and sophomore Katie Burchfield (5).

The visiting Scots (11-18) won the first two sets by just two points, but the Warriors came storming back with convincing wins in the third (25-11) and fourth (25-17) frames, forcing the deciding game. In the fifth set, Hendrix hit .400, but only connected on five kills, while Lyon hit .450 with 11 kills.

For the match, the Warriors outhit the Scots .199 to .085 and had more blocks (16-6), aces (12-11) and digs (64-59). Lyon had a 52-48 kills advantage.

Burchfield also had 10 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Clement recorded 15 kills and freshman Kylee Spicer had 11. Freshman libero Ella Concavage-Nasar led all players with 23 digs and senior Jennifer Youngblood added 11. Sophomore Zoe Calhoun had 37 assists.

The Warriors will host the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Central Intradivisional Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
