University of Central Arkansas freshman Pep Angles was named the Southland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month this week after leading the Bears to a 43-stroke victory at the UMKC Bill Ross Intercollegiate played Oct. 15-18 in Overland Park, Kan.    

Angles, from San Andres de Llaavaneras, Spain, set school records for single round score with a 64 in the second round and for tournament score with a 14-under 202 over three rounds. Angles was medalist of the 11-team tournament as the Bears won by 43 strokes. For the month, Angles averaged 71.0 strokes over six rounds of action.    

The UMKC tournament concluded the Bears’ fall schedule. They will play again beginning on Jan. 28 in the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
