The Hendrix College women’s swimming team finished seventh and the men took eighth at the 49th annual Hendrix Relays at Bob Courtway Pool on Saturday.

For the women, senior Vanessa Morris, junior Alanna Montgomery, freshman Kaia Duke and junior Emily Hanson finished ninth in the 400 yard medley relay in 4:59.69. Duke, along with freshmen Taylor Keplin, Ava Commissariat and sophomore Jordan Akin also finished ninth in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:01.90. Sophomore Jo Claire Robertson, freshman Laura Price and Morris took sixth in the 300 yard backstroke in 3:17.96. Duke, Keplin and freshman Sydney Haldeman swam a time of 4:04.09 in the 300 yard breaststroke, placing eighth. 

The 800 yard freestyle team of Morris, Haldeman, Price and Robertson finished sixth in 8:39.13. Haldeman, Price and junior Emily Hanson swam the 1,500 yard freestyle in 17:56.15, finishing seventh. Keplin, Montgomery and Commissariat took ninth in the 300 yard medley in 3:46.10.

Robertson, Montgomery and Commissariat finished sixth in the 300 butterfly in 3:22.65. Duke, Commissariat, Keplin and Hanson were ninth in the 500 freestyle in 5:32.25. Price, Morris, Montgomery and Akin also were ninth in the 200 yard medley with a time of 2:14.43. Robertson, Haldeman, Hanson and Akin finished sixth in the 400 freestyle in 4:12.02.

Henderson State won the women’s meet with 426 points. They were followed by Oklahoma Baptist (413), Centenary (366), Arkansas-Little Rock (340), Sewanee (303), UT Permian Basin (300), Hendrix (240), McMurry (220) and Rhodes (216).

For the men, junior Justin Flanagan, freshman Joseph Schmits, sophomore Matthew Larson and senior Alex Koeppel finished eighth in the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:44.53 and the 800 freestyle in 8:28.75, placing eighth. They also finished eighth in the 200 yard  medley in 2:03.08. The 300 yard medley team of Flanagan, Larson and Schmits placed seventh in 3:23.73. 

Oklahoma Baptist finished first out of the men’s field with 418 points. They were followed by HSU (402), Centenary (360), UTPB (342), Sewanee (242), McMurry (260), Rhodes (124) and Hendrix (90).

The Warriors will return to the pool in Little Rock on Nov. 5 in a triangular meet against UALR and Rhodes.
