The Hendrix College field hockey team claimed the third seed at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a 3-0 victory over Sewanee at Warrior Field on Friday afternoon. 

The win was a school-record sixth shutout of the season for the Warriors (9-4, 2-3). 

Sophomore defender Jennifer Koller put the Warriors up just before halftime in the 35th minute with a goal shot from the left side, after a pass by sophomore Elizabeth Lancaster. Junior Kelly Rappe’ scored her ninth goal of the year in the 64th minute when she knocked the ball in after a rebound. Freshman Lotte Kraaijenbrink assisted freshman Erika Jasso’s team-leading 14th goal in the 67th minute for the final score of the game.

The goal by Rappe’ gave the Fort Collins, Colo. native 49 career points, breaking Abby Coleman’s previous school record of 48. Rappe’ also holds the Hendrix record with 22 career goals.

The Warriors outshot the Tigers (5-8, 1-4) 16-2 and had a 10-0 shots on goal advantage. Keeper Anna Morrow recorded seven saves for Sewanee.

Hendrix will wrap up the regular season on Sunday against Centre College at noon. Before the game, Warrior senior midfielders Lauren Thorburg and Liz Williamson will be honored.
