Senior midfielder Lauren Thorburg and freshman forward Erika Jasso each scored a pair of goals as the Hendrix field hockey team defeated Centre 4-0 at Warrior Field on Sunday. The win moved the Warriors (10-4, 3-3) into a second-place tie in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference final standings with the Colonels (10-7, 3-3). Hendrix will be the second seed and will meet third-seeded Centre again on Saturday at the SCAC tournament in Memphis.

The win was the first for the Warrior program in 10 tries against the Colonels.

Thorburg, who was honored with fellow senior Liz Williamson before the game, put Hendrix on the board just 5:04 into the game after knocking in a rebound. Jasso scored in the 19th minute to make the game 2-0. Thorburg scored again, her third of the season, on a pass from junior forward Kelly Rappe’ in the 45th minute. Just 1:59 later, Jasso tacked on the final goal, her conference-leading 16th of the season.

The Warriors outshot the Colonels 11-10 and had a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. Freshman keeper Betsy Kelly recorded four saves in her seventh shutout of the season for Hendrix and Patty Cowley had four saves for Centre.
