Coming off an opening weekend in which the UCA softball team went 4-1 overall, tossed a no-hitter and won the Southern Miss Coca Cola Classic, the Bears will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the first game on their new turf field in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday
Kasey Britt was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week while also receiving College Sports Madness Southland Player of the Week honors. Britt received the recognition after finishing the weekend 7-for-17 at the plate with two home runs and seven RBI.
Through the first five games, the Bears boast a .350 average as a team and are averaging 8.8 runs per game. With runners in scoring position this season, UCA is hitting .385 (25-for-65).
The Golden Lions will serve as the home opener for the Bears for the fourth consecutive season. UCA has swept the previous three home openers against the Golden Lions.
Freshman Cicely New of Greenbrier is slated to get the nod in the second game. New made her UCA debut Sunday in a 10-9 win at Southern Miss. She tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing the Bears to stay close enough to come back and get the victory.
