ROCKWALL, Texas — In the first day of competition at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Meet, Hendrix senior Vanessa Morris broke own school record in the 500-yard freestyle finals with a time of 5:09.14, good for fourth place.
Freshman Sydney Haldeman of Conway finished 11th in the 200 individual medley finals with a season-best time of 2:16.60.
Junior Emily Hanson and freshmen Taylor Keplin, Kaia Duke and Ava Commissariat placed eighth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:53.87. Haldeman, Keplin, Morris and junior Alanna Montgomery finished seventh in the 400 medley relay at 4:19.86.
Freshman Jonathan Bauer-Erickson placed 11th in the 1-meter diving with a score of 166.75. Senior Alex Koeppel, sophomore Matthew Larson and freshmen Joseph Schmits and Samuel Maynard finished eighth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.28.
Sophomore John Byford took nine seconds off his 200 IM season best to place fourth in the finals at 1:58.48. Larson placed 16th in the 500 freestyle finals, with his best time of 5:01.59 coming in the preliminaries. The Fort Collins, Colo. native shaved 26 seconds off his previous season-best. Schmits was the Warriors’ top finisher in the 50 freestyle in 24.40, placing 34th.
Larson, Byford, Maynard and Schmits finished eighth in the 400 medley relay in 4:02.17.
