The Creighton Blue Jays scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning to hand the University of Central Arkansas Bears a 7-3 loss in nonconference baseball action Saturday at Bear Stadium.
The Blue Jays (2-0) put together four hits off three UCA pitchers in the 10th inning to win for the secomd time in two days. The Bears got a leadoff single from Blake Roberts in the bottom of the frame but Creighton got out of it with a double play and a groundout to end the game.
The Blue Jays broke a scoreless tie with an unearned run in the fourth inning, aided by a UCA error and two sacrifice bunts. Creighton made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth before UCA scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Griffin Glaude doubled down the left-field line and advanced on a ground out. Jonathan Davis had an RBI single up the middle before Forrestt Allday walked. Junior Ethan Harris doubled to left to score Davis.
The Bears tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and left two runners on base. Allday singled and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Garrett Brown. Harris was intentionally walked and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Blake Roberts walked to load the bases and Travis Snider grounded out to bring in Allday.
The Bears got out of the top of the ninth inning when Travis Snider threw out Creighton’s Michael Mutcheson to end the inning. UCA went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.
Harris and Allday both finished 2 for 4 and Bryan Willson was 2 for 5. Nick Judkins, Anthony Bemboom and Scott Thornburg had two hits each for the Blue Jays. Andy Steinmetz took the loss in relief, while Reese McGraw got the victory with 1.2 innings of relief.UCAThe The Bears and Jays will conclude the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
