CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas got eight strong innings from Jeffery Enloe and four RBI each from Blake Roberts and Travis Snider to down SIU-Edwardsville 9-2 in non-conference action Friday at Bear Stadium.

Enloe (1-1), a junior left-hander, struck out 7 and allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs. Roberts, a senior third baseman, went 3 for 5, while Snider, a senior catcher, was 2 for 5 with a three-run home run.

The Bears fell behind in the top of the third inning when Enloe allowed one run but came back with five of their own in the bottom of the frame. Jonathan Davis singled up the middle and then stole second base before Ethan Harris’ single to center scored him to tie it at 1-1.

Bryan Willson was hit by a pitch and Roberts followed with an RBI single up the middle to give the Bears the lead for good. Snider then hit a three-run shot to right field, UCA’s first home run of the young season, good for a 5-1 lead.

SIU-E got one run back in the fifth inning on Mitch Matecki’s RBI single but Enloe got out of that inning by striking out Zach Hawkins with two runners on base.

UCA plated three more runs in the eighth, with Roberts and Snider again playing key roles. Roberts had a two-run single up the middle, scoring Harris and right fielder Forrestt Allday. Snider followed with a single to right field to bring in Willson with the final run.

UCA had a season-high 14 hits, with Allday, Garrett Brown and Blake Marchal recording two apiece. The Cougars were held to seven hits, with Matecki and Travis Becherer getting two each.

Freshman Dylan Owen from Little Rock Catholic pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Bears, striking out one. Travis Felax (1-1) allowed 9 hits and 6 earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Game 2 of the series is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, with the series finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.
