NACOGDOCHES,  Texas — University of Central Arkansas pitchers Kelsie Armstrong and Cami Newsome combined for a double shutout Saturday in a 1-0, 6-0 sweep of Stephen F. Austin in a softball doubleheader.


The Bears upped their record to 33-18, 9-7 in SLC.


In the first game, the Bears’ lone run came in the third inning on a bases-loaded single by Melanie Bryant.

Armstrong (20-11) had her 30th complete game of the season against the Ladyjacks (13-30, 4-12 SLC). She allowed one hit and struck out 12.



In the second game, Newsome (10-4) scattered four hits in four innings of work.  Armstrong held SFA hitless inthe final three innings.



Central Arkansas makes a quick return to Southland Conference play, hosting UT-Arlington for a doubleheader Tuesday at Farris Field
