GULF SHORES, Ala. —After an opening-game victory in the double-elimination championship round of the NAIA softball tournament, Central Baptist College was thrust into the losers bracket Monday afternoon.
Brenau College of Georgia used a 13-hit attack in an 8-4 victory over the Lady Mustangs (53-7), who were scheduled to play at elimination game Monday night.
The Golden Tigers of Gainesville, Ga., (45-14) broke the game open with five runs on four straight hits in the first ining. They added runs in the third, fourth and sixth.
CBC, which had only five hits, scored in the second on two walks and a single by Kiara Bonner. The Lady Mustangs scored three times in the fourth on an error, a walk, a single by Kayleigh Harriman and a double by Erica Gunter.
Christen Kirchner's two-run home run in the first inning, one of four hits by CBC, led the Lady Mustangs to a 2-1 victory of Southeast Indiana in Monday morning's opener.
Jessica Bock allowed five hits and struck out four in picking up the win for CBC.
Southeast Indiana's only run came on a solo home run by Jade Detzer with two outs in the seventh.
