PINE BLUFF — Central Baptist women opened their soccer season Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a team that has made the NCAA playoffs the last three years.
"This was a big win against a Division I team on the road for us," said CBC coach Justin Hawkins.
Ashley English, a senior from North Little Rock, had two goals. Britany Kemper, a senior from Arlington, Texas, added one goal. Becca Clements, a sophomore transfer from UALR, got the shutout in goal.
The Lady Mustangs will play their home opener against Bacone College at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Centennial Soccer Park. The men will play about 6.
MONROE, La. — The Central Arkansas women’s soccer team beat the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to complete its season-opening road trip with a 2-0 record.
It was the first win for the Bears in six tries against the Warhawks, who had beaten UCA in their season opener the previous two seasons and owned a 4-0-1 series lead. The victory gives the Bears their first 2-0 start since 2005, and is the first time in program history that they have started the season with consecutive road victories.
All goals were scored in the second half, Kristin Pollard scored first for the Bears in the 73rd minute. Brooke Ballard added one in the 78th minutes. The Warhawks scored their only goal with 13 seconds left.
In goal for the Bears, Kelsey Gochnauer compiled six saves, while Alex Holland made four saves for the Warhawks.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, Aug. 26, opening their home season by hosting Lipscomb. They then host Louisiana Tech on August 28.
