The Hendrix College men's soccer team set a program record with 10 wins by defeating Sewanee - The University of the South 3-1 at Warrior Field on Sunday afternoon.
The 2012 Warriors, who move to 10-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in Southern Athletic Association play, surpass the old mark of nine wins held by the 1993 and 2009 squads.
Hendrix got on the board in the 32nd minute when senior defender Dylan Reed of Conway scored after a beautiful cross from the left by freshman forward Will Dunaway. Freshman Pedro Sagone put the Warriors up 2-0 in the 73rd minute on an assist from senior forward Connor Silvestri. Silvestri, of Conway, the Warriors' all-time leading scorer with 42 career goals, found the net three minutes later when he knocked in a Dunaway rebound.
The Tigers (4-10-2. 1-3-2) disrupted the shutout when Samuel Edoung-Biyo scored on a Gervais Baker pass with 24 seconds left in regulation.
Sewanee outshot Hendrix 19-15 and had an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Warrior sophomore Eric Bracy registered four saves in 77 scoreless minutes in goal and freshman Marco Luna had three saves in 13 minutes. Jacob Zalewski had three saves for the Tigers.
With one regular season conference match to play, Hendrix sits in a tie for fourth place with Millsaps College. The Warriors will finish the regular season on Saturday when they host Rhodes College.
