SEWANEE, Tenn. — The Hendrix College volleyball team suffered a five-set loss at Sewanee - The University of the South in their Southern Athletic Association regular-season finale on Sunday afternoon. The host Tigers (12-10, 6-8) fought off three match points in the fifth set to take the match 20-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-14, 18-16.



The Warriors (12-16, 5-9) will head into the SAA Tournament in Mount Berry, Ga. as the sixth seed and will most likely face Centre in the opening round on Nov. 2.




Tthe Warriors hit .097 with 56 kills, two aces, 100 digs and seven blocks. The Tigers hit .093, 38 kills, five aces, 78 digs and 10.5 blocks.



Junior outside hitter Katie Burchfield led Hendrix with 14 kills to go with 17 digs and four block assists. Senior Melissa Clement had 12 kills and five blocks. Seniors Katie Bates and Kristen Finch added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Freshman libero Jill Sikes led all players with season-best 32 digs. Sophomore Jasmine Johnson came up with 16 digs and sophomore Ella Concavage-Nasar had 11.


The Warriors will wrap up the regular season with out-of-conference foes Williams Baptist and Crowley's Ridge in Walnut Ridge on Saturday.
