For a team that played 11 straight weeks without an open date, the University of Central Arkansas Bears face a different problem this week in preparation for their NCAA FCS second-round playoff game at Georgia Southern.
Too much time off.
"We've been off more days than we have practiced the last month because of the open date at the end of the season and the bye week (for the playoffs) last week," UCA coach Clint Conque said at Monday's Bearbacker luncheon.
The Bears will practice Monday through Thursday this week before heading to Statesboro, Ga. Monday is normally a day off for the football team.
"We need to build continuity; to do that we've got to get the reps to make up for get our aggressiveness back after the break and to get ready for a team with a completely style (triple option) of offense," Conque said.
The Bears will play the Eagles at 1 p.m. (CT) Saturday at Statesboro. The winner plays the winner of Coastal Carolina and Old Dominion in the quarterfinals.
