FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — Hunter Mickelson scored 14 of his career-high 16 points after halftime, helping Arkansas to a 79-74 win over Robert Morris on Thursday night.
Mickelson, a sophomore center, played only five minutes in the first half after picking up a pair of early personal fouls. He made up for his absence after the break, scoring 10 points in the period's first 6:33 to give the Razorbacks the lead for good.
Paced by Mickelson's perfect 6-of-6 second half shooting, Arkansas made 67 percent of its field goal attempts after halftime and led by as many as nine points.
B.J. Young added a game-high 23 points for the Razorbacks (6-4). Mardracus Wade had 14 points and Marshawn Powell 12.
Robert Morris (8-5) stayed close with its free-throw shooting, connecting on 15 of 18 attempts after halftime. The Colonials pulled within three points on a pair of Lucky Jones free throws with 2:50 left, but could get no closer.
Powell's slam dunk with 1:21 remaining gave Arkansas a 74-68 lead after Mike McFadden missed a layup on the other end of the floor.
The Colonials led by as many as eight points in the first half, but Arkansas used a 10-0 run to regain the lead, 27-25.
From there, the teams exchanged the lead four times before the Razorbacks took a 35-34 halftime lead on a Coty Clarke free throw late in the half. The teams combined to commit 26 personal fouls before the intermission.
Robert Morris played the majority of the first half without its leading scorer, Velton Jones.
The senior, who was averaging 12.3 points per game entering the contest, picked up two offensive fouls in the first two minutes and a third personal foul with more than 13 minutes remaining before halftime. Jones picked up his fourth foul with 14:28 left in the second half and finished the game with three points.
Coron Williams and Karvel Anderson led Robert Morris with 17 points each.
