McNeese State began the game with a 20-4 run, had the lead cut to two by halftime, then pulled away from the University of Central Arkansas in the second half on the way to a 77-61 victory over the Sugar Bears on Thursday at the Farris Center.
The victory ended a 22-game, regular-season winning streak by the UCA women on their home court.
The Cowgirls (4-3, 9-9) put themselves back in the scrap for the top in the Southland Conference women's race. With losses Thursday, the Sugar Bears (12-6, 5-2) and Lamar fell a game back of first place Sam Houston State. UCA hosts Lamar on Saturday afternoon.
"It's been a long time since I've had a team start that lackdaisical in that big of a basketball game," said UCA coach Sandra Rushing. "When you start off like we did, it's tough to win because you use so much energy getting back in it."
