The University of Central Arkansas Bears won two games in different fashion Friday in the first day of the UCA Invitational softball tournament at Farris Field.

The Bears defeated Creighton, 13-2, as Kelsie Armstrong struck out 13.

They then downed Northern Iowa, 4-3, in eight innings when Melanie Bryant scored the winning run on a throwing error.

Sam Forrest, Ashley Boswell and Stephanie Lasley all had two hits against Creighton. Sarah Bijei had a home run.

Forrest had three hits and Bryant a home run in the second game. Armstrong allowed one hit in 1.2 innings of relief work to pick up her second win of the day.

UCA has three games in the tournament Saturday — Northern Iowa at 1 p.m., Grambling State at 5 p.m. and Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m.
