Treece earns Southland honor

University of Central Arkansas shortstop Justin Treece was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week after leading the Bears to a 5-0 record last week.

Treece, from Sylvan Hills High School, hit .556, going 10-for-18 over the five-game week. Treece had two three-RBI games and scored two runs three times. He scored seven runs and had six RBIs, drew three walks and had no strikeouts.

Treece also had 15 assists and 12 putouts at shortstop and did not commit an error as the Bears swept a three-game series from 16th-ranked Sam Houston State last weekend at Bear Stadium and also beat UAPB in a pair of mid-week games by scores of 18-12 and 13-1.

UCA has won six of its last seven games heading into this weekend’s series at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Two Hendrix players honored for lacrosse

Hendrix College freshmen Carson Boone and Christian Wheeler have been named the Southern Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Boone, an attacker from Allen, Texas, scored eight goals and an assist to lead the Warriors to a pair of conference victories last week. He had five goals in Wednesday’s 6-3 win at Rhodes. Boone scored three times with an assist in Saturday’s 13-7 victory against Millsaps. For the week, Boone shot 10 times, nine of which were on goal, and scored on eight of those shots. The award is the second of the season for Boone.

Wheeler, of Annapolis, Md., had a 5.00 goals against average with 20 saves in the two wins. He recorded 14 saves for a .824 save percentage at Rhodes. In Saturday’s win against Millsaps, Wheeler stopped six shots.

For the week, Wheeler had a .667 save percentage and three ground balls.
