The Hendrix baseball team recorded a pair of benchmark victories Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from former Southern Collegiate Athletic Association rival Trinity (21-5) , the No. 3-ranked team in NCAA Division III.
In the games at Warrior Field, the Warriors (14-11) won the opener, 4-3 and the nightcap, 2-1.
Collin Raddack was 2 for 3 with a triple in the opener. Wyatt Hogan was 3 for 4 with a double.
Will Nichol (3-0) was the winning pitcher with Daniel Imbro getting the save.
In game two, Warrior sophomore Kyle Teachout (3-1) hurled a complete game, giving up eight hits, one run, one walk and one strikeout.
It’s the highest-ranked team the Warriors have defeated since downing No. 2 Millsaps in 2009.
At Nacogdoches, Texas, Stephen F. Austin took the first game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday against UCA, 9-6.
Nate Ferrell was 3 for 4 for the Beas. Conway’s Tyler Langley had two hits and a home run.
The Lumberjacks broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom on the eighth on the way to a 5-4 victory in the second game and a sweep of the Bears (14-10, 4-4).
At Farris Field on Saturday, the UCA softball team (16-21, 6-4) overcame a 7-1 deficit with a 10-run third innning on the way to a 15-7 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on the way to sweeping a doubleheader from the Lady Lions (9-14, 3-8).
Hannah Stirton had a grand slam home run for the Bears.
The Bears Kylee Studioso struck out 14 in a two-hitter in the second game, won by the Bears, 3-0.
Jessie Taylor had a two run home run and Brianna Whisenhunt added a sacrifice fly.
Also homering for the Bears in the twinbill were Amy Gunnells, Ashley Boswell and Sam Forrest.
At Huntsville, Texas, the University of Central Arkansas tennis team won its first Southland Conference match of the season, 6-1, over Sam Houston State.
Winning singles victories for the Sugar Bears were Simona and Kristina Horsikyan, Kelsey Williams, Krizia Buck and Bianc Strukelj.
Kristina Horsikyan and Kelsey Williams scored an 8-5 win over Imke Jagau and Kayla Stevenson in the No. 1 doubles match, while Krizia Buck and Sasha Ruocco scored a default victory in the No. 3 match as Sam Houston State (3-7, 1-4 SLC) was unable to field a team due to injuries. The Bearkats’Isabella Costa and Natalie Petaia defeated Cassidy Crawford and Simona Horsikyan 8-3 in the no. 2 match.
