Ashley Boswell’s walk-off home run in the seventh, her second of the evening, gave the University of Central Arkansas softball team a 7-6 victory Tuesday night over the Louisiana-Monroe.

Boswell was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Bears (19-27), who held off rally by the Lady Warhawks (18-17) after leading 6-3.

Kylee Studioso (11-7) picked up the win for Central Arkansas, allowing six runs on six hits over seven innings of work. She struck out 11 Warhawks and didn’t issue a walk.

The Bears host Houston Baptist in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday with a single game at 2 p.m. Friday.


The Hendrix College baseball overcame a 5-0 early deficit to defeat Williams Baptist College 11-7 at Warrior Field on Tuesday night.

The Warriors (20-14) gave up five runs on four hits and three walks in the first inning to the Eagles (8-26). After the shaky start, sophomore starter Brian Commerford settled down and retired 13 straight with three strikeouts before being relieved by freshman Alex Raab in the sixth. Raab, making his collegiate debut, earned the win by allowing two hits and fanning one in a scoreless inning.

Hendrix plated nine runs on eight hits and two errors in the bottom of the sixth to gain the lead. Junior designated hitter Brady Newville had the big hit of the frame with a two-run single. The Orange & Black tacked on two more in the seventh when Newville led off with a single and senior center fielder Collin Radack doubled, moving Newville to third. Senior second baseman Jacob Perschke followed with a bloop double, clearing the bases.

Brady Newville went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Collin Radack also had four hits with two doubles and a stolen base. He broke Clark Sims’ school record with the 158th run of his career.

Jacob Perschke was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two scores. Matt Simmons Hendrix hosts Central Baptist College at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
