MOBILE, Ala. — After defeating Ole Miss in the opening game, the University of Central Arkansas team lost to South Alabama and Jackson State in the weekend Mardi Gras Classic.
Saturday, the Bears (5-4) could make the best use of eight hits in a 2-1 loss to Jackson State. Melanie Bryant was 2 for 3 for the UCA women. Kelsie Armstrong (2-3), who gave up a home run in the second in what proved to be the winning run, took the loss.
In games Friday, Melanie Bryant moved into first place on the school career home run list with her 25th and 26th of her career, one in each game.
The Bears defeated Ole Miss, 4-2, then lost to South Alabama, 11-2.
Armstrong allowed six hits over seven innings to earn the victory against the Rebels.
Ciara Clampitt was the losing pitcher in the second game, giving up four runs in two innings.
