University of Central Arkansas senior pitcher Kelsie Armstrong and freshman outfield Sam Forrest were named to the Southland Conference all-tournament softball team.

Armstrong, of Lake Hamilton, the 2013 Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year, threw consecutive shutouts the first day, going 16 scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts and only two walks. She followed that on Friday with another strong performance, allowing just one earned run in a complete-game loss to Northwestern State, giving her a total of 19 strikeouts with a 0.30 earned run average through her first 23 innings.

Forrest, from Broken Arrow, Okla., hit .385 for the tournament, driving in a pair of runs, scoring twice and contributing a sacrifice fly and a walk.

The Bears won two games in the tourna program-record 38 games in 2013, besting the previous mark of 36 set last season. They finished fourth in the Southland regular-season standings and knocked off conference champion and top-seeded McNeese State along with 5th-seeded Lamar en route to their third-place finish at the tournament.
