After unleashing a powerful offensive attack in a mid-week game Tuesday at UT Martin, the Univerity of Central Arkansas baseball team begins a three-game road series with the Southland Conference leader Thursday night.
The Bears, 12-12 in the SLC and in seventh place, will take on first-place Sam Houston State, 17-7.
Placement in next week’s SLC tourney is at stake.
The Bears prepped for the challenge with a 16-4 romp over the Skyhawks at Martin, Tenn.
UCA hit a season-high four home runs and had a pair of six-run innings in scoring 16 runs against the Skyhawks for the second time in less than a month. UCA won 16-8 in Conway on April 23.
UCA used 13 position players and seven pitchers.
Forrestt Allday was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Seven of UCA’s 11 hits were for extra bases, with junior Jonathan Davis hitting his fifth triple of the season and Allday had his 12th double. Senior Clint Green (3-2) pitched the second and third innings and allowed no hits for the victory. Redshirt freshman Bo Stitch, making just his second appearance of the season, pitched a perfect ninth inning, ending it with a strikeout of Taylor Cox.
