FAYETTEVILLE — University of Central Arkansas’ Pep Angles closed with a 5-over 77 on Thursday in the final round of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional at The Blessings Golf Club.
Angles, a sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, finished tied for 55th place, shooting 78-81-77-236. Illinois won the regional at 863, upsetting host Arkansas (866). Texas was third (880), Oklahoma State fourth (882) and Kent State (892) to round out the Top 5.
Angles, the Southland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year, was the first UCA player to compete at an NCAA Regional since Steven Lecuyer in 2011.
The NCAA Fayetteville Regional was one of six regionals being held across the country that features the best teams and individuals in the nation. There were 14 teams and five individuals competing at The Blessings. The low five teams from each of the six regionals, along with the low individual from each site not on those teams qualify for the finals, to be played at The Capital City Club, Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga., on May 28-June 2.
