University of Central Arkansas’ Pep Angles was named the Southland Conference Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday in conjunction with the release of the All-Academic teams.
The award for the sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, completed the SLC double-double as Angles was also named the SLC Men’s Golfer of the Year last week. The two awards were the first for a UCA men’s golfer since the Bears joined the league in 2006.
Angles led the conference in stroke average this season at 72.6 and finished second at the SLC Championship. He participated in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional as an individual last week, shooting 78-81-77-236. Angles, a two-time All-SLC selection, was the second UCA men’s golfer to play in a regional. He also had six Top 10 finishes during the season, including a victory at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate.
Angles is the first men’s golfer from Central Arkansas to be named student-athlete of the year. Angles, a business administration major, posted 3.47 grade-point average.
