On Senior Day on Saturday, the University of Central Arkansas capped an unblemished conference season.

The Sugar Bears (26-3) took a 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 victory over Southeastern Louisiana (11-20, 4-14) to finish 18-0 in the conference, the first time in 33 years that they have gone undefeated in the league while winning at least 18 games.

UCA’s six seniors recorded their 50th home career victory. The Sugar Bears also won their 19th straight game.

Marissa Collins dished out a match-high 36 assists while adding three kills, three aces, two digs, and two blocks to lead the Central Arkansas offense. Heather Schnars had a match-high 15 kills and Jessica Nagy chipped in nine. Defensively, the Sugar Bears were led by Shelbee Berringer, who had a match-high 11 digs, and Paige Gantar, who turned in a match-high four blocks.

The top-seeded Sugar Bears now will play eighth-seeded team in the opening match of the SLC tournament at Corpus Christi, Texas.


QUITMAN — Mayflower’s Lady Eagles defeated South Side of Bee Branch in the first round of the Quitman junior high basketball ournament Saturday, 51-24.

 Leading Mayflower in scoring was Tristen Lasker with 15 points. Tori Lasker had 14 points, Ali York had eight points, and Marissa Harper had seven points.

The Lady Eagles will play Pangburn in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Monday.
