At halftime Saturday, the University of Central Arkansas’ Maggie Proffitt had as many points as the University of New Orleans.

The Sugar Bears (15-7, 9-2) put away the winless Lady Privateers early in taking a 46-16 halftime lead and coasting to a 62-30 victory a. Southland Conference newcomer UNO (0-22, 0-11) has lost 25 straight games over the last two seasons.

Proffitt scored 16 in the first half on the way to 23 points. Courtney Duever added 13 and eight rebounds. Brittany Agge added seven and 10 rebounds.


UCA’s quest for a second straight victory for the first time this season was denied, 88-79, by the Privateers (9-10, 6-5).

The Bears (6-16, 3-8) trailed 41-40 at the half and 80-72 with 7:57 left. UCA cut the deficit with 4:37 remaining before UNO mounted a 5-0 run. LaQuentin Miles drove for a three-point play to draw UCA within 78-75 with 1:41 left. Then, the Privateers’ Isaac Mack fed Cory Dixon for a dunk coming out of a timeout. UNO then hit six straight free throws to clinch the victory.

Miles, 12 of 17 from the field, led the Bears with 28 points.
