University of Central Arkansas defensive back Dominque Brown calls this "my second last season."
The first was short and painful.
He suffered a season-ending ACL injury early in the third quarter last year against Colorado.
"It was a simple hitch route," he said. "I felt a pop. I crawled off to the sideline. I thought I would out be out about two weeks. Then, I had to have surgery and I thought my career was over."
The senior from Galveston, Texas, is back as one of the Bears’ most experienced players this season.
"A lot of times you want to move on with the group of seniors you came in with," he said. But I got stronger. It’s a matter of keep grinding.
"The whole coaching staff helped encourage me to come back. During the process, my teammates kept me focused and helped me fight through the injury."
Now, he’s back and a leader on the UCA defensive and a young secondary. "We’ve seen steady improvement in the younger guys because of Dominque," said UCA coach Steve Campbell. "He’s taken those guys under his wing. "
