GULF SHORES, Ala. — Central Baptist College opened NAIA softball tournament pool play Thursday afternoon with a run-rule victory over Morningside College of Iowa.

The Lady Mustangs (51-5) used 11 hits and Jessica Bock’s three-hit shutout pitching in an 8-0 romp over Morningside (28-20).
The Lady Mustangs will play Reinhardt College of Georgia at 9 a.m. Friday in the second round of pool competition.

Kiara Bonner, Erica Gunter, Christen Kirchner, Natalyle Chudy and Samantha Luther all had two hits for CBC. Luther drove in three runs, Kirchner two and Bonner scored two runs.

Bock struck out nine in the complete-game victory.

CBC scored in the first on an error and an RBI single by Jessica Tickle.

The Lady Mustangs began to take command in the second on a walk, singles by Reann Surrett and Boanner, a sacrifice fly by Gunter and a two-run single by Kirchner.

CBC tacked on three more in the bottom of the fifth on two walks and back-to-back doubles by Luther and Tracy Ratliff.

The Lady Mustangs ended the game in the sixth on a double by Kirchner and a single by Chudy.

The winners of the eight pools will play in a double-elimination championship tournament beginning Monday.
