MILLINGTON, Tenn. — Four Hendrix College baseball players were named to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Team and four more were selected as honorable mentions on Thursday night.
Senior first baseman Mark Vlaskamp, senior second baseman Clark Sims, senior third baseman Kyle Raskin and sophomore outfielder Collin Radack made the first team, while senior outfielder Aaron Bowen, sophomore designated hitter J.T. Bowen, senior outfielder Nathan Harr and sophomore pitcher Jacob Pershke were honorable mentions.
Vlaskamp, from Houston, Texas, ranks second in the nation with 23 hit by pitch, 17th with 27 walks and 26th with a .517 on-base percentage. He is third on the team with a .331 batting average with 42 hits, 38 runs, five doubles and 21 runs batted in. Vlaskamp was an All-SCAC honorable mention in 2010.
Sims, of North Little Rock, Ark., ranks second in the country with a school-record 53 runs scored and is 16th with 61 hits. He also ranks third in the league with a .497 on-base percentage and is first with seven triples. Sims is second on the team with a .379 batting average to go with 14 doubles, 27 RBI and 16 stolen bases. He earned honorable mention All-SCAC his first three seasons.
Raskin, from Simi Valley, Calif., hit .300 with 25 runs, 42 hits, 11 doubles, four triples and 28 RBI. Playing both third and shortstop this season, he has a .941 fielding percentage on 135 chances. Raskin has been named All-SCAC Honorable Mention the previous three seasons.
Radack, of Austin, Texas, ranks 10th in the nation with 63 hits and 16th with 45 runs batted in. He also is second in the SCAC with a .406 batting average to go with 39 runs, 12 doubles, four triples, two home runs and 13 stolen bases. Radack earned first team all-conference honors last season as a freshman.
Aaron Bowen, from Tonitown, hit .280 this year with 28 runs, 35 hits, eight doubles, two triples and 17 RBI. Playing a stellar center field, he has six assists and a .992 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 120 chances.
J.T. Bowen, also from Tonitown, is tied for fourth in the league with six sacrifice bunts. He also has hit .328 with 17 runs, five doubles and 13 RBI while being in the lineup as a DH, catcher, first baseman and left fielder this season.
Harr, of Duncanville, Texas, is hitting .327 with 29 runs, 51 hits, 10 doubles, two homers and 29 RBI. He has also drawn 25 walks and has seven stolen bases. Harr has made just one error in right field for a .988 fielding percentage. This is the third All-SCAC honorable mention selection for Harr.
Perschke, from Katy, Texas, is second on the pitching staff with a 3.10 earned run average and is tied for second in wins with a 4-1 record. In 40.2 innings he has recorded 28 strikeouts with just 14 walks with a team low opponent batting average of .248. Perschke was a All-SCAC First Team selection last year at third base.
