The Hendrix College field hockey team will open the season this weekend with a trip to Ohio and Indiana.

The Warriors will kick things off at Denison on Friday and then play at Earlham on Saturday. The trip will conclude with a Labor Day matchup at Ohio Wesleyan on Monday.

Sixth-year head coach Ellie Karvoski returns 10 letter winners, including nine starters from last year’s squad that went 10-5, the best record in program history. The Warriorsfinished in a tie for second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

A pair of dangerous scorers return for the Warriors at forward. Senior Kelly Rappe’, Hendrix’ career record-holder with 50 points and 22 goals, netted nine goals and five assists a year ago, ranking third on the team with 23 total points and earned All-SCAC Honorable Mention. Sophomore Erika Jasso, the SCAC Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, shattered the program’s single-season records with 16 goals and 36 points. She led the league in goals and earned All-Great Lakes Region First Team honors.

After their trip to the Midwest, the Warriors will play their first Southern Athletic Association game at Transylvania on Sept. 15. Hendrix will return home on Sept. 29 for a game against Sewanee, then take on NCAA Division II member Lindenwood on Sept. 30. Transylvania will come to Conway on Oct. 6 , followed by Centre on Oct. 7. After a trip to St. Charles, Mo. in October, where the Warriors will face Lindenwood and Limestone, Hendrix will wrap up their home schedule on Oct. 20 against Rhodes.
