SHERWOOD — Abundant Life teams took two senior victories over St. Joseph in conference basketball openers Friday night.

In the boys game, the Owls won 48-43 over the Bulldogs (5-2, 0-1).

"We didn’t make the plays we had to on both ends of the court and they did," said St. Joseph coach Brent Bruich. "They got hot during a four-minute stretch and hit four 3-point shots and we had to play catchup the whole fourth quarter. It’s going to be interesting to see how we respond to this setback. We’ll find out what kind of grit and determination we had inside us next week."

Grant Smith had 16 points and six rbounds for the Bulldogs. Matt Snider had 11 points and nine rebounds. Tyler Jones added nine points and five rebonds. Andrew Beck had four points, six assists and three steals. Brandon Thessing had six assists.

In the girls game, Abundant Life (9-1) won 34-20 as the Lady Bulldogs fell to 4-3, 0-1.

Amy Schichtl had 10 points and eight rebounds. Jennifer Hegemann had eight rebounds and Hannah Rehm five. Rebecca Moix had three steals.

"It was a tough night; we had trouble scoring," said SJ coach Chris Kordsmeier. "We had only one point in the second quarter. We played better in the second half. We just got too far behidn the first half. We just have to keep working and improving."

In junior boys, St. Joseph (8-0) won 44-25.

Landon Enderline lead with 18 points, five assists, three steals. Drake Cooper had eight points and six rebounds. Nash Nichols had seven points and three steals. Dylan Schrekenhofer added four points. Taylor Schrenhofer had four rebounds and three steals.
