Six Faulkner County teams begin play in state baseketball tournaments this week at at three sites.
Despite losing at a place (Little Rock Catholic) the Conway Wampus Cats (17-8) have historically had trouble, Conway, the defending 7A champion, maintained the No. 1 seed from 7A Central in the state boys playoffs.
The Wampus Cats ran into red-hot Rockets the second half. in the 61-55 loss. Catholic shot 66 percent from the field for the game and hit 11 of 11 shots the second half. The Rockets hit 21 of 25 foul shots, 11 of 13 the second half.
Colt Fason led Conway with 13 points, Everett Reed had 11 and Tim Boyd 10.
Conway, which drew a bye in the first round of the state tournament at Rogers Heritage, could meet the Rockets again. They will play the winner of Rogers, No. 4 seed from the West, and Catholic, No. 5 from the Central, at 5:30 p.m, Thursday.
The Conway girls, the No. 4 seed from the Central, will poay Har-Ber, No. 5 from the West, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers Heritage. The winner will play Fayetteville, the top seed from the West, at 4 p.m. Friday.
Vilonia’s girls, Guy-Perkins boys and girls and Mount Vernon-Enola’s girls will also play in state tournaments.
VILONIA: The Lady Eagles, No. 2 from 5A-West, will play Batesville, No. 3 from the East, at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Alma.
GUY-PERKINS: The Lady Thunderbirds, the No. 2 seed for Region 3A, will play Nemo Vista, fourth-seeded from 4A, at 4 p.m. Thursday at Calico Rock.
The Thunderbirds, the 2 seed from Region 3A, will play third-seed Wonderview at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Mount Vernon-Enola girls, third from 3A, will play No. 1 seeded Calico Rock at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
