Armorel and Parkers Chapel powered to convincing victories Sunday afternoon in state championship baseball action at UCA’s Bear Stadium.
Class 1A: Armorel (19-11), who got hot late in the season, pounded Viola, 13-7. It was only Viola’s second loss of the season against 33 wins.
Class 2A: Parkers Chapel (32-3) scored 11 runs in a 25-minute first inning to cruise to a 12-1 mercy-rule win over perennial state power Junction City (24-13), which wa making its seventh appearance in a state title game. It was the third state championship for Parkers Chapel. Parkers Chapel’s 11-run first inning is the second time a team has had a double-digit inning in an Arkansas state baseball Championship game. In 1995, Pine Bluff scored 13 runs in the eighth inning in a 21-8 win over Texarkana in the Class AAAAA final. Trojan pitcher Travis Stanley was named MVP.
