The basketball season ended for two more Faulkner County teams in state tournament play Thursday night.
At Pine Bluff, Paragould used eight straight points by Sidney Layrock in the fourth quarter in a 38-35 victory over Vilonia in a tightly contested defensive struggle in the 5A quarterfinals.
The Eagles trailed by seven points in the third quarter before going on a 10-2 run to take a 30-29 lead going into the final period. Four free throws by Layrock gave the Lady Rams a cushion. Vilonioa missed three shots in the final 20 seconds and finished their season 24-4.
In a 3A first-round game at Riverview High School in Searcy, Osceola took a 72-55 victory over Mayflower.
Earlier Thursday, Mount Vernon-Enola’s girls advanced to the semifinals in the Class A tournament at Bradley with a 57-37 victory over Viola. Parkers Chapel ousted the Conway Christian boys, 57-38 in the AA tournament at Marmaduke.
MV-Enola is now the only Faulkner County team left with a chance to win a state title. Seven county teams qualified for state tournament play.
