With 35 youngsters qualifying, the Aquakids Swim Team had a series of successful efforts at the state Short Course Championships at Fayetteville.

Overall, the Aquakids boys team finished fourth and the girls eighth.

Ty Wingfield won the state title in the 200 backstroke.

Second-place finishes were recorded by the following: AJ Mainord, 100 breaststroke, 100 and 200 butterfly; Aaron Rieth: 100 freestyle, 100 and 200 backstroke, and Wingfield: 50, 100 and 500 free, and 100 backstroke; the 11-12 boys 200 freestyle relay of Adrien Brite, Ethan Marotte, Neel Pate and Wingfield.

Recording third-place finishes: Mainord: 200 back; Rieth: 200 and 500 free; and Wingfield: 200 Free; the 15-18 girls 200 freestyle relay of Sydney Wingfield, Amanda Crnic, Elam Fulton and Casey Ragsdale; and the 11-12 boys 200 medley relay of Wingfield, Brite, Pate and Marotte.

Tryouts for the next season of amateur swimming for the Aquakids will be from 6-6:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, April 21-25, at the Bob Courtway Pool at Hendrix.


MAYFLOWER — The Mayflower baseball team upped its record to 5-0 Monday with a 12-2, run-rule victory over Heber Springs.

The Eagles scored four runs in the first on hits from Michael Post, Trey Bradley, Justin Sewell and Garret Taylor. Tyler Herrin and Jordan Burns had RBIs.

Bradley and Burns drove in more runs to give Mayflower an 8-1 lead after two innings. Bradley and Mason Quick singled in the fourth and Sewell added an RBI to push the lead to 10-1. Herrin and Bradley drove in runs in the fifth to end the game.

Drew Duncan went all five innings for the Eagles striking out five while surrendering no walks and only five hits. Bradley was 4-for-4 with four RBIs in the 11-hit attack.

In JV action Mayflower posted a 2-1 victory. Bailey Butler recorded the win for the Eagles and Jared Rippee lead the Eagles at the plate going 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
