FAYETTEVILLE — White Hall broke open a tight game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth on the way to a 5-2 win over Vilonia on Saturday to claim the 5A state softball title at Bogle Park.
The Eagles, who finished second in 5A West but got on a hot streak in the early rounds of the state tournament at Wynne, finished 23-9.
Lady Bulldogs pitcher Sydney Clark handled the Vilonia batters most of the afternoon. The Eagles scored in the first on a double by Whitney Price, a sacrifice and a passed ball. They scored in the seventh on a home run by Catherine Loyd. Clark allowed nothing between.
After Loyd’s home run, Clark struck out two batters to end the game.
Leading 2-1, the Lady Bulldogs scored two runs on three hits in the fifth to take command.
The Lady Bulldogs’ victory represented a double title for White Hall this weekend. White Hall’s baseball team won the 5A title with a victory over Watson Chapel on Friday night.
