I hope this finds everyone doing well and looking forward to new beginnings for the New Year. When I look back at the Christmas season and all the celebrating that goes along with that, I think of all the people across the world that celebrate Christ's birth and call it Christmas. It wasn't just a holiday, it was a holy day. What is important is that He was born and we are pointing to His birth because without Christ, there is no Christmas, holiday or celebration without that important event. When you take away Christ, it could be any celebration. Brother King reminded us of this in his Christmas message.

He also shared that Christ needs to be celebrated everyday of the year and to remember these different names that describe who He really is to us. Matthew 1:18 tells us that Christ was the "Anointed One" which represents a divine appointment to the service of God. In verse 20, he is called the "Holy Spirit Child." Since Jesus had no earthly father but had Mary as His mother, the Holy Spirit acted as the male agent. This was a unique miracle from God through the Holy Spirit. In verse 21, Jesus is referred to as the "Savior of Mankind" and He shall save His people from their sins. Verse 23 calls him "Immanuel" which means God with us. What a wonderful gift God gave the world; a promise that He is with us forever and is no longer silent or away from us. He did this all through his son, Jesus Christ.

As we look to the New Year and new beginnings, we seem to think we can make all of these elaborate changes in our lives by ourselves. Only through Christ can we do anything and through His strength we are made whole and strong. Start your day with praise to God. He loves to hear from His children and we are the sons and daughters of a mighty King. Spend time in God's word. His word tells us everything we need to know and question about life. Yield to Christ daily and take up His cross. Shed the ugliness of the world each day and let Christ clothe you in His righteousness. Have you thought about encouraging someone lately? If not, smile at someone who may need a jump start for the day or share an encouraging word to them. We never know what others are going through. Show them who Jesus really is through your actions. Remember that each day is a blessing from God as He is the creator of all and our Heavenly Father. Allow him to show you where you can serve as a child of God. What a blessed life we live in the arms of our Father.

On behalf of Bro. Gaylon King and the members of Immanuel Baptist Church, we pray for those of you who need a special touch from God this coming year. As you start your new year, please join us for fellowship and the teaching of God's word. Sunday school is at 10 a.m. with worship services following at 11 a.m. Wednesday night men and women's bible studies to include Sunbeams, GMAs and Galileans children's classes start at 7 p.m. We are located at 56 S. Broadview in Greenbrier. Blessings to you and yours this new year.
