Carter and Burgess engineers will be designing the planned YBMA ball park, the Conway City Council decided at a regular meeting Tuesday night, for a fee of $814, 662.
Though the price may seem high, Mayor Tab Townsell said, it represents less than a tenth of the park's projected $10 million cost and is comparable or lower than the fee paid to engineers working on other park projects statewide.
The council also approved changes in the Conway Sanitation Department's fee rates for electronic waste disposal. In an effort to encourage more Conway and Faulkner County citizens to dispose of electronic waste at the city's recycling facility, department director Cheryl Harrington told the council, the cost of recycling unwanted televisions, computers, printers, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, washers, dryers, stoves, VCR/DVD players, home stereo equipment and various other small electronic items has been halved or reduced by more than half.
Those requesting an additional green waste cart will now be charged a one-time, non-refundable fee of $50, the council decided.
The council also approved the allocation of $32,141 in general fund revenue to allow the sanitation department to further utilize biodiesel. The money will be used to purchase a 10,000 gallon tank for biodiesel storage to expand the department's "green initiative," as Townsell put it.
John Clemment, who manages the department's maintenance operation, told the council that the organic diesel fuel saves the department money, as engines burning it tend to require less maintenance.
In other business, the council approved:
The reappointment of Ruth Glover to the Board of Housing Authority for an additional five-year term;
The appointment of William Adkisson to the Conway Corporation Board of Directors;
Equipment bids for the Street Department including $34,766 from Hugg and Hall for a heavy duty skid steer loader, $15,019 from Hugg and Hall for a small skid steer, and a $22,223 from Bale Chevrolet for a one ton truck (4 door crew cab rear wheel chassis);
Approving a bid from Scott Construction Equipment for $62,654 in repairs to the Conway Sanitation Department's D6R Caterpillar 'dozer;
An ordinance waiving bids for the purchase of an overhead tube system for the Conway Sanitation scale house (the system will cost about $35,000);
An agreement with UCA and Youth Softball Association of Conway for the rental use of softball fields at UCA;
An ordinance appropriating about $3,225 in donated funds to the Conway Police Department;
An ordinance appropriating funds not to exceed $17,000 for software support for the AS400 computer, on which city's Finance and Human Resource Office relies;
Reclassification of Street Department positions to the appropriate title and compensation level based on job duties and responsibilities (no salaries have been lowered);
Rejecting the low bidder for cleanup at 1470 Wildflower Road, Poor Boy's Handyman, whose owner mistook the address for another property, and accepting the next low bidder; and

Robinson Historic District Commission.
