HENDRIX TRUSTEES DECIDE TO ADD FOOTBALL
After a 13-month study and debate, Hendrix College's board of trustees has decided to add football to the college's athletic program. Football was discontinued at Hendrix after the 1960 season because of costs. No timetable was set for football to be implemented, but trustees said the sport will only be implemented after start-up costs are raised from external sources. Trustees have also voted to add women's lacrosse with the same stipulation. Further details in Wednesday's editions of the Log Cabin Democrat.

Zach Gingerich of Conway traveled to Denver last week to compete as a national finalist in the Music Teacher's National Association Senior Brass Competition.

Gingerich, son of J.D. and Janet Gingerich, earned this opportunity after winning the state competition held at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia and eight state south-central regional competition, held at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

A junior at Conway High School, Gingerich has been studying the trombone for six years and is the student of Todd Johnson. Gingerich is a member of the Conway High School band and jazz band and the Arkansas all-region and all-state jazz and concert bands. He is also the principal trombonist for the Arkansas Youth Symphony.

The Senioir Brass Competition will take place during the MTNA National Conference. Music Teachers' National Association is a nonprofit organization made up of 24,000 independent and collegiate music teachers committed to advancing the role of music study and music making to society and supporting the professionalism of music teachers. Founded in 1876, it is the oldest professional music association in the United States.
