HENDRIX TRUSTEES DECIDE TO ADD FOOTBALL
After a 13-month study and debate, Hendrix College's board of trustees has decided to add football to the college's athletic program. Football was discontinued at Hendrix after the 1960 season because of costs. No timetable was set for football to be implemented, but trustees said the sport will only be implemented after start-up costs are raised from external sources. Trustees have also voted to add women's lacrosse with the same stipulation. Further details in Wednesday's editions of the Log Cabin Democrat.

Police seek carjackers

Officers with Conway Police Department were investigating a carjacking on Wednesday that happened at Wal-Mart on Harkrider Street Tuesday night, where at 7:30 p.m. a woman returning to her black four-door Toyota XSL was held at gunpoint by two men.

The woman was freed within about an hour of the abduction, but her car was still missing as of Wednesday night and the suspects were still wanted.

These suspects are described as two blacks in their late-teens: One wearing baggy blue jeans with a gray sweat shirt and hoody, and the other wearing blue jeans, a light-colored baseball-style shirt with dark sleeves, a dark baseball cap, a gold coin-like earring the size of a dime in his left ear and a bronze leaf-like earring dangling from his right ear. The man wearing earrings was said to be armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Police said Wednesday that after the abduction at Wal-Mart, "The trio traveled I-40 in (the victim's) vehicle to an area of Hwy 89 South just east of Mayflower about three miles before she was released." The two suspects then left the area in the woman's car, which displayed Arkansas license plate 406 MNX.

"At the point of release a small white car pulled up and the driver spoke to the suspects," police said. Police believe the white car was also captured on video at Wal-Mart where the incident took place. After being released from the suspects the woman flagged down a passerby who called 9-1-1 and let her call her husband. She then came to CPD and filed a report of the incident.

Several items inside the vehicle as well as credit cards and the victim's cellphone were also taken, police said.

This investigation is continuing, and persons with information about possible suspects or the location of the stolen vehicle are asked to contact CPD at 450-6120.
